Mahamoud Fahour

A commercial business operator who was involved in creating the powerful club of Melbourne Falcons in the Victorian State League and the only franchise team for the newly created National Volleyball League in the 90’s. Departed from volleyball and focused on a career at Nine Network Australia and running a number of successful businesses as an entrepreneur. Re – emerged to play with Heidelberg and instantly made an impact turning the once powerful club that lost its way into an instant success on and off the court. In 2009 he became the General Manager of Volleyball Victoria which was nearly insolvent with little members and events portfolio. Within 3 years turned the organisation around to have wiped off all debt and reporting healthy surpluses and very successful events portfolio with a huge growth in numbers. He was responsible for numerous large corporate sponsorships in the sport along with great government funding in the Multicultural programs.

Post his Volleyball Victoria role has now focused on creating the VVA to ensure the current flock of great talent in Victoria and Australia are provided with a platform to receive the best training and match experiences at a state of the art facility and international relations. The Academy will also host junior athletes who are ready to excel to the next stage of their career to have a shot at international or National recruitment.

VVA Beach Director: Haydn Ellis

Haydn Ellis has been coaching professional beach volleyball for over twelve years. He has coached teams to the number one ranking in Australia in both men’s and women’s beach volleyball. He currently coaches a number of the highest ranked teams in Australia in both divisions. Haydn coaches both; Team Boland / Schumann and Legrand / Court in their World Tour preparation.

Rather than self-promote Haydn prefers to coach by example and through experience. Here are some of Haydn’s key principles for your consideration.

  1. Beach volleyball is not a game only for tall people.
  2. Beach volleyball is not a game of indoor volleyball played on sand. Not only is the game style itself different but the techniques employed are different including spiking technique.
  3. The development of speed in all its forms including technique execution, physical movement, mental quickness and strategic game play is extremely important.
  4. Understanding how the human being functions is essential in providing coaching that is relevant, not only to the physical self but in development of the subconscious faculties.
  5. Mastering the ‘Art of War’ in beach volleyball can help players to win games when matched against players of greater technical and physical ability.
  6. Beach volleyball is not a coach's game. You can be coached to learn the skills and to understand the game but ultimately you have to learn to think for yourself.
