Playing indoor volleyball for nine years, Legrand had already racked up national honours before making the switch to the sand. He was rated No.2 for Australia’s junior indoor team in 2005 and No.3 in Australia’s ‘‘All-Star 6’’ in 2005 and 2006. At the request of a friend, he made the switch to the sand three years ago and has been an instant success. ‘‘I played indoor so much that I needed a change,’’ said Legrand, who trains at South Melbourne and Mordialloc beaches. This year he hit the beaches of Italy and Spain and ventured to Russia as part of the Junior Beach Volleyball Championships and Senior FIVB World Tour. But the highest accolade came early this year when his peers voted him MVP for the 2006-07 Virgin Blue Victorian Beach Volleyball Series
